Drunk Driver/Analysis

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Media reporting on Real Life drunken driving accidents and deaths often provides Unfortunate Implications. The victims of alcohol-related vehicle crashes in the most common news stories are always the innocent, sober drivers—if teenaged, they're invariably the cheerleaders / Straight-A students / star athletes with a bright future. Meanwhile, the actual drunk driver walks away with minor scratches and bruises. String together enough of these stories, and you get the Warped Aesop that if you're going to be driving at 2:00 AM on a Saturday or Sunday morning, you've got better odds of survival if you've had a few drinks beforehand. Sure, you'll get fined, imprisoned, and have your life generally ruined, but at least you'll still be alive!
